At the end of 2023, our Project Manager at Kintore moved onto other ventures. At the time, I had been Assistant PM for a year and I was waiting to find out who my new boss would be. It came as a shock to find out I had been put forward to take on the role myself by my BUGM & Project Director. They believed that as I knew the client well and had been on the project since 2020, that I could handle this scale. I’ve not looked back since and I’m really enjoying the journey! I’m now going through my APM qualifications and working towards my Chartership.
VINCI Energies UK & RoI is an organisation made up of incredible teams both large and small. Tell us about your incredible team and what it’s like to work with them.
Our team are dynamic, resilient, vastly knowledgeable and always ready to support one another. With a project of this scale and complexity, involving so many people, challenges are inevitable along the way but the way the team pulls together every time is what makes it special. It speaks volumes that many highly experienced colleagues have said that Kintore is the closest-knit group they’ve worked with.
At VINCI Energies UK & RoI and our associated businesses, we are ‘transforming our world through the digital and energy revolutions’. Please tell us how you (or your team) are helping us to achieve that goal.
Constructing a 400kV substation really underpins the digital and energy revolution. This substation forms part of a smarter, more resilient, and low-carbon electricity network – creating a critical backbone for Scotland and the UK. It enables renewable generation to connect at scale, strengthens our security of supply and increases the efficiency of energy transportation. Innovation is at the heart of what we do – bringing sustainable energy solutions to life. We’re also deploying a lot of digital protection and control technologies in the build, making the substation easier to maintain and monitor remotely in the event of any power outages – which is basically Wi-Fi over dial-up!
In 50-100 words, please tell us why you are proud to do what you do…
I’m proud to play a part in building something that will keep homes, businesses and communities powered for years to come. It’s always exciting to say you’re working on a project that’s a first, but replacing an industry-standard greenhouse gas with one 99% less harmful will benefit generations to come. Day to day, I take pride in tackling the complex challenges of a project, leading a great team and making sure everyone goes home safe.
