Meet Luke, OT Cybersecurity Engineer at Axians UK. Passionate about protecting essential services and tackling complex technical challenges, Luke plays an important role in strengthening operational technology (OT) security while continuously developing his expertise. We caught up with Luke to learn more about his work, his incredible team and how collaboration, trust and innovation make Axians such a great place to work.
Hi Luke, can you finish the following sentence: ‘My business is an incredible company to work for because…’
We tackle meaningful cybersecurity challenges, encourage continuous learning and create an environment where engineers are trusted to take ownership, explore new approaches and deliver meaningful results.
Can you give us an example of a time when you have been supported to achieve your best in your career while with us?
A time I felt most supported was during a major OT firewall deployment at one of our sites. My manager trusted me to lead the technical work but made sure I had access to the right SMEs and lab resources when I needed them. The wider team was also extremely collaborative, reviewing designs, sharing previous deployment insights and helping validate the solution against operational needs. That combination of trust, guidance and teamwork enabled me to deliver a smooth, secure deployment and grow my confidence in handling complex OT security changes.
VINCI Energies is an organisation made up of incredible teams both large and small. Tell us about your incredible team and what it’s like to work with them…
My team is incredible because we combine strong technical skills with a genuinely supportive mindset. Everyone brings different strengths, and we work together openly sharing knowledge, helping each other solve problems, and staying calm and focused even under pressure. It’s a team where people collaborate naturally and have each other’s back, which makes delivering great work both achievable and enjoyable.
AtVINCI Energies and our associated businesses, we are transforming our world through the ‘digital and energy revolutions’. Please tell us how your (or your teams) contribution is helping us to achieve that goal…
My team’s work supports digital and energy revolutions by helping to modernise our OT environments in a secure and reliable way. As we replace legacy systems with more connected, data‑driven technologies, I ensure the cybersecurity foundations are in place through improved network segmentation, upgraded firewalls, and stronger visibility across our operational assets.
Finally, , please tell us why you are proud to do what you do…
I’m proud of what I do because I know the systems I help protect have a real impact on people’s lives. Working in OT cybersecurity gives me a sense of purpose, I’m not just solving technical challenges, I’m helping keep essential services safe and resilient. I enjoy digging into problems, learning constantly, and knowing that my work quietly prevents disruptions that others may never even notice. That responsibility and the chance to make a real difference, is what motivates me every day.
