Incredible Careers: Aidan McManus, Business Unit General Manager at Actemium UK Design
Ever wondered what it's like to work at a VINCI Energies business? We spoke to some of our colleagues to find out about their experiences.
Hi Aidan, Can you finish the following sentence: ‘My business is an incredible company to work for because…’
we put our excellent engineers at the heart of everything we do.
Give us an example of a time where you have been supported to achieve your best in your career with us.
VINCI Energies has demonstrated its commitment to investing in their people by sponsoring me through a training programme with the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) which has provided me with great insights into my own leadership style and how to deploy alternative approaches to get the best from my team.
VEUK is an organisation made up of Incredible Teams both large and small. Tell us about your Incredible Team and what it’s like to work with them.
My team is committed to delivering the highest professional design service they can on behalf of our customers to achieve the best engineering solutions possible for some of the most strategically important projects in the UK’s nuclear industry. They develop excellent working relationships with our customers that results in successful outcomes, glowing recommendations and repeat business.
At VEUK and our associated Businesses, we are ‘Transforming our World Through the Digital and Energy Revolutions’. Please tell us how you (or your team) is helping us to achieve that goal.
By successfully delivering projects to support the clean up and decommissioning of the UK’s nuclear legacy, Actemium UK Design is reducing the risk associated with some of the highest hazard facilities in Western Europe. We are playing a role in helping change the public’s perception of nuclear so that it can be recognised as a clean source of energy production and supporting the UK Government meet their target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050 by constructing the next generation of nuclear power stations.
Finally, can you tell us in a few words why you are proud to do what you do?
I’m honored to be part of an organisation that has a proud history in the UK nuclear industry. We embrace innovation so that we can adapt and change to the needs of our customers. This ensures we are at the cutting edge of new emerging technologies and can incorporate them into our engineering design solutions. We also invest heavily in our people through training and professional development, especially our young apprentices, so that they have the skills needed to provide an excellent engineering service.
