Incredible Careers: Liam Delaney, Mechanical Engineer at Actemium UK Design

Ever wondered what it's like to work at a VINCI Energies business? We spoke to some of our colleagues to find out about their experiences.

Hi Liam, Can you finish the following sentence: ‘My business is an incredible company to work for because…’

…of the team spirit and generosity of the individuals within Actemium UK Design!

Give us an example of a time where you have been supported to achieve your best in your career with us.

North West Projects (now Actemium UK Design) sponsored me to complete a Degree in Mechanical Engineering. This has helped me to further my career from Designer to Senior Designer and now to Engineer.

VEUK is an organisation made up of Incredible Teams both large and small. Tell us about your Incredible Team and what it’s like to work with them.

As individuals we all have different skills and knowledge. So, when combined this creates a passionate, multi-disciplined Engineering team. Actemium UK Design has an extremely friendly, pro-active culture and everyone is willing to share knowledge to help each other. We all have the same goal, which is to provide the best possible solution to any problem or task, always with a smile!

At VEUK and our associated Businesses, we are ‘Transforming our World Through the Digital and Energy Revolutions’. Is there anything you and your team are doing locally to achieve that goal?

Recently our Innovation Club has been considering environmental impacts and improvements within Actemium UK Design. Some of the team researched how we could change from using fluorescent tubes in our offices to LED lights. Firstly, this would save on waste by not having to change the tubes as often and secondly by using less energy.

Finally, can you tell us in a few words why you are proud to do what you do?

I have been working in Engineering for 13 years. Yet I have been an engineer my whole life. From playing with Meccano as a child, studying physics at High School, completing an apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering to graduating university with a Bachelor’s degree. I am proud of how far I’ve come and I am proud to know that my actions in the office can translate to problem solving in the real world.

If you’re looking to join a team like Liam’s, we have a position for you!
